Bio

After more than 35 years spent working as a financial economist and research manager for various banks in London, much of it as a specialist in emerging markets, Phil has embarked on a second career in photography. His interests include documentary and urban landscape genres and more recently retro-style portraiture.

In approaching photographic subjects he is working to leverage his experience in emerging markets. This approach is evident in much of his work including a book, In Memoriam, which is a twist on traditional portraiture. Shot in various cities in Ukraine before the Russian invasion it features an array of funerary portraits and considers how to sum up a life in a single image.

In addition to work in emerging markets, Phil has also focused on a photographic project covering Brutalist architecture in the UK. He recently published a book, Old Brutalism, documenting the Brutalist Anglia Square development in Norwich, England (available from The Book Hive bookshop in Norwich). Since the end of lockdown in the UK he has also spent more of his time working on portraiture and retro fashion.

Phil is open to a range of photographic commissions both in the UK and abroad.
